Education: QAC Case Study

Queen Alexandra College

Breathing Buildings Ltd has installed a system of mixing ventilation units in the two storey classroom block at the QAC campus in Birmingham. In this installation, classrooms on both the ground and the first floors exchange air with the outside through stacks which penetrate the roof of the building. In winter, the system operates using the mixing ventilation strategy of the e-stack units, while in summer, the system control changes to operate using upward displacement ventilation.

Monitoring of the site since occupation suggests that the e-stack control system maintains very comfortable internal air temperatures and that the CO2 levels remain low, confirming the effectiveness of the ventilation system.
