Create Healthy,
Low-Energy
Indoor Environments

We help architects, consultants, and contractors design and install energy-efficient ventilation systems that guarantee indoor air quality without the high carbon footprint.

Poor Ventilation is Costing Your Building
More Than Just Energy

📉

Rising Costs

Inefficient HVAC systems place a continual burden on buildings by increasing operational carbon emissions and escalating energy costs over time.

⚙️

Inflexible Systems

Conventional one-size-fits-all mechanical ventilation designs often fail to reflect the unique demands of a building’s layout, leading to over-specification, wasted space, and reduced efficiency..

🌫️

Low productivity and poor health

Poor indoor air quality in schools- including SEN facilities and laboratories - and offices can have a significant impact on health, wellbeing, concentration, and productivity.

Schools can maintain a healthier environment with significantly lower energy use, helping meet sustainability goals while improving teaching and learning conditions year‑round.
Leisure Facilities
Leisure environments - gyms, studios, and recreation spaces - demand high-performance air exchange to manage heat and moisture. Whether through Natural, Hybrid, or Mechanical ventilation, Breathing Buildings designs the optimal system for your specific load requirements. Our dynamic solutions effectively manage humidity and temperature, ensuring a safer, fresh-air environment for high-activity users while maximizing energy efficiency across the board.

Offices
Breathing Buildings’ ventilation systems create healthier, more productive office environments by continuously supplying fresh air while reducing reliance on traditional mechanical cooling. Their hybrid approach helps maintain stable temperatures, reduces CO₂ buildup, and improves occupant comfort throughout the day. The system adapts dynamically to occupancy levels and outdoor conditions, ensuring a balanced, energy‑efficient workspace that supports employee wellbeing and reduces operational costs.
Community Centres

Community centres benefit from flexible, responsive ventilation capable of handling diverse activities and fluctuating occupancy. Breathing Buildings’ solutions maintain fresh air in multi‑use spaces ranging from sports halls to meeting rooms, contributing to a welcoming, healthy environment for visitors while delivering meaningful reductions in energy consumption.

Waiting Rooms

Waiting rooms require consistently clean, comfortable air to support visitor wellbeing, especially in healthcare or public service environments. Breathing Buildings offers steady, controlled ventilation that limits CO₂ buildup, improves thermal comfort, and reduces the spread of stale air. The result is a calmer, more pleasant experience for the people who wait there.

Restaurants

Breathing Buildings provides effective ventilation that enhances comfort for both diners and staff. Their systems help manage heat from kitchens, control odours, and maintain excellent indoor air quality even during peak service. By reducing energy consumption compared to fully mechanical systems, restaurants can also benefit from lower utility bills while delivering a more enjoyable dining experience.

Breathe Easy. Save Energy.

The Project: ECO MEP (M&E contractors) aimed to create a carbon-negative operational workplace in a new build industrial unit.

The Solution: Installation of two NVHRe C+ 1100 units (Natural Ventilation with Heat Recycling and Heat Recovery) in the first-floor open-plan office. These units feature heating and cooling coils for year-round temperature control and are integrated with the building’s acoustic rafts.

”Working with energy efficient goals every day and having knowledge of the range of products available meant we knew that there was no comparison to better deliver the requirements of our new office building.”
- Paul Hooker, Owner and Managing Director of ECO MEP.

The Project: The £8m expansion of Ivydale Primary School involved constructing a new two-storey building to double the school’s capacity. A key element was providing a healthy learning environment with excellent indoor air quality and thermal comfort.

The Solution: Installation of Breathing Buildings’ e-stack units. A pair of e-stack A-500 units were installed in each of the eight ground-floor classrooms, while thirteen actuated louvre-damper units were installed at a high level in the atrium. This enabled an atrium cross-ventilation strategy for rooms without direct roof access.

The Project: YMCA East Anton is a purpose-built nursery and community centre. The client had concerns regarding high energy use and maintenance costs associated with traditional mechanical ventilation and sought an unobtrusive, low-energy solution to keep the classrooms and communal spaces fresh.

The Solution: Installation of F1000 units into the voids above the toilets in each classroom. In winter, the system recycles heat from solar gain and the occupants to pre-heat incoming air. In summer, the system operates in an upflow displacement mode, automatically switching to night-cooling to passively cool the building fabric for the following day.

The Project: This £23m “Outstanding” BREEAM-rated development was designed as a benchmark for sustainable healthcare. The challenge was to provide high-level natural ventilation in a clinical setting - specifically in the large, high-occupancy waiting areas and circulation spaces - which traditionally rely on energy-intensive mechanical cooling.

The Solution: The design utilizes a low-energy natural ventilation strategy centered around a large internal atrium that serves the waiting areas. Breathing Buildings implemented a “thermal wall” and shaft system. In winter, cold fresh air is drawn in at a high level and mixed with the warm air rising from the waiting patients, eliminating draughts. In summer, the “stack effect” pulls hot air up through the atrium and out of the building, keeping the waiting zones naturally cool.
