More Accolades for the EcoPod

Costa Eco Pod Scoops the BGSC Gold Award for Sustainability

Breathing Buildings is delighted to announce that on 2 December 2015, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, the Costa EcoPod scooped the BCSC Gold  Award for Sustainability (https://www.bcsc.org.uk/events_awards/gold_awards/gold_awards). The building comprises two retail pods, occupied by Costa and Subway, and is located on Hammerson’s Wrekin Retail Park in Telford. The EcoPod concept was developed by Emission Zero and was built in just 13 weeks. The project involved a close collaboration between all parties involved; Costa, Hammerson and their design teams, which included Breathing Buildings. The close working relationship enabled the team to use best practice sustainable design techniques and to include the most appropriate low carbon technologies.  The core building services heating, cooling and ventilation strategy was developed around a low energy e-stack natural ventilation system delivered and controlled by Breathing Buildings. The integration of the heating and cooling systems into the overall Breathing Buildings control system was critical to the success of the building.

There are only so many awards functions a team can attend on a given night! It was therefore a wonderful challenge, because the Costa EcoPod received two more awards at the Hilton Hotel in London. The Energy Awards 2015  (see https://www.theenergyawards.com/2015-winners) saw Hammerson and Costa being awarded the Energy Partnership of the Year and the Judge Supreme award for the delivery of the Costa EcoPod.

Breathing Buildings are thrilled to have played a key part in the success of this A+ EPC rated building.
